This project involved the renovation and interior design of a magnificent property nestled into the slopes of Deia (Mallorca) overlooking the sea below. Purchased by a British couple, the idea was to update and freshen up this holiday villa in such a way that, albeit respectful of its traditional charm, the mood would be one of a certain quirkiness and relaxed fun.
The kitchen was modernised and brightened by painting the dark beams white, white-washing the wooden cupboards and adding an original ceiling lamp made of wine bottles. The dining room was provided with added light by hanging a floor to ceiling mirror opposite the window, framed in silver to match the large chrome ceiling lamp hanging over the solid round table and the chrome drinks trolley in the corner. The use of metal in homes with an overwhelming use of terracotta and dark wood helps to brighten up spaces and add contemporary touches to rustic settings. The lounge was divided into a comfortable reading area featuring two vintage leather swivel armchairs and an Indonesian hardwood console running along the back of the sofa. The seating area was decorated in soft powder blues, light coloured rug and floaty linen curtains.
The bedrooms were all given their own particular style. The Moroccan inspired décor in the master bedroom features a large king-size bed unusually placed in the middle of the room, making use of the alcove as a seating area, with back wall painted dark pink, Marrakesh light fittings and cushions in pink and intricate North African patterns. All bathrooms in the home were fully renovated with modern and simple fittings, but the master bathroom features a striking river stone floor set in micro-cement, to add flair to the mood of this suite. Another bedroom is graced with a four-poster bed in white washed wood, with soft furnishings in white and turquoise. Another bedroom has twin beds and one large headboard, making it highly adaptable to guests, decorated in a bold blend of lilac and pistachio. Yet another bedroom is a serene space in blue and turquoise.
The outside space in this property offers many levels all taking advantage of the views beyond. Ironwork railings were replaced and the pool terrace was extended over the garage, to provide more space for sunbathing. An array of comfortable all-weather rattan furniture was arranged throughout the areas, including the outdoor dining porch, with a fully modernised outdoor kitchen at one end. The overall result is a stunning overhaul of a naturally amazing property, that has managed to enhance every space to its full potential.
